Christoph Hagel will both direct and conduct a production of Mozart´s famous opera The Magic Flute this spring. What makes this production different is that it will be taking place in the Berlin Underground. The new station Bundestag, between Kanzleramt and the Reichstag is not currently in use. This future station will provide a stage for the production of the opera unlike any other. The set will provide a backdrop for The Magic Flute, which will be portrayed as a modern urban love story. According to Hagel, the pillars and atmosphere of the subway station, along with the connection to the entire Berlin underground provides an excellent backdrop for Mozart´s fairy-tale. The opera will premiere April 26, and runs until May 25.

Monica Garcia Albea wurde in Spanien geboren und wuchs in den USA auf. Sie studierte am New England Conservatory in Boston und erhielt den Titel Bachelor und Master of Vocal Performance. 1995 gewann sie den 1. Preis beim Florence-Boughton-Wettbewerb in New Jersey und 1998 beim Wettbewerb der NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing). Im Jahr 2000 erhielt sie ein Stipendium am Bay Area Opera Theatre Institute in San Francisco. Monica Garcia Albea gab Solokonzerte u.a. in Barcelona, Boston und New Jersey. Im Sommer 2002 arbeitete sie mit Dalton Baldwin bei den Nuits Musicales de Nice. Seit 2003 lebt sie in Berlin.
