Copenhagen Opera Mounts New `Ring' as Modern Danish Family Saga.

Bech Holten's ``Ring'' cycle, begun in the old house with ``Das Rheingold'' and ``Die Walkure'' and continued in the new with ``Siegfried'' and ``Gotterdammerung,'' has played a role in changing opera's image for the next generation.

He tells the ``Ring'' as a Danish family saga, set in the 20th century and seen from a feminist perspective.

``It is almost old-fashioned in that it really tries to tell the story,'' he says. ``We really try to put people of flesh and blood on the stage, and not to over-intellectualize the piece. It is a family saga, in the style of Nordic literature or the `Godfather' films.

``To make a good family saga you need to be able to see time passing,'' hew says. ``We chose to make it a portrait of the most fascinating, dynamic and terrible century in mankind's history. `Das Rheingold' takes place in the 20s, when the big ideologies are taking shape. `Die Walkure' is set in the 50s, in a Cold War climate. ``Siegfried'' is in 1968, when the young hero comes and breaks his father's rules. And `Gotterdammerung' is at the end of the century in the Balkans, when the ideologies come crashing down.

Brunnhilde's Survival

``At the end, Brunnhilde sets fire to Valhalla,'' he says. ``But we let her survive. It is time to put an end to the operatic tradition of slaughtering all these dangerous and interesting women -- Tosca, Carmen, Violetta.''

vamos a ver,,másomenos...que en Copenhague han programado un Anillo pero pasado a época actual y enfocado desde una óptica feminista.
Rheingold ocurre en los años 20, Walküre en los 50 con la guerra fría, Siegfried en el 68 y Götterdammerung en plena guerra de los balcanes.

MIRA TODO ES CUESTION DE ORGANIZARSE ,al principio que salen las programaciones de las operas, las pido ,miro...... ,cosas interesantes........ me apunto ,calculo........ y luego decido, segun presupuesto y fechas :este de COPENHAGE LA VERDAD QUE ME SALIO SIN QUERER, hace poco, por este colegui ,pero cuando estaba haciendo las gestiones, me salio otro( anillo) mucho mejor y............
